This is simply an unbolt and replace job. Each handle has 3 nuts (10mm socket) holding them in, and a plastic clip that is holding the locking rod in place. Now that the door panels are set aside it's time to change the handles. Remove the screws that I marked with an arrow. Remove 1 screw at the bottom of the door panel and then lift out the tray in the door panel. Remove the inner door handle bezel, manual lock slide and triangle trim piece at mirror mounting area.
Screws are marked with arrows and obviously the bezel is marked too.įront door panel are a little harder since they have a few more screws. Remove the electrical plug to the switch and set aside. Then lift the door panel up and all the clips will clear. Remove the bezel around the inner door handle, remove the manual lock slide ( it pries out with a small screwdriver. There are 2 screws that you will need to remove using a 7mm socket. Move the rods clear and take the handle out. I used my finger and disengaged the plastic retaining clips that hold the left and right latch rods. Using a 13mm socket remove the 3 bolts on the inside of the tailgate. Then pry them down while pulling out on the bezel, after they clear lift the bezel up and out. To remove the bezel, pull down and out on the top until you can get to the tabs. Tailgate handle and bezel also changed out. I used 7, 10 and 13mm sockets a T-20 Torx bit, 1/4" drive ratchet and a couple of extensions and a screwdriver. No special tools are required for the install. So inspect the parts carefully before you start the install. They are shipped from GM in a thin cardboard box and no bubble wrap or anything. They will sell you the exact same thing for a few dollars more. Don't bother getting handles from ebay sellers. I ordered my handles from gmpartsdirect, here is the link.
